This episode marks a special occasion as our first featuring two guests, and even better, a father-son duo! The McCullochs delved into the transition from active duty service members to veteran employees, highlighting that the skill distinguishing you for success is leadership. We explored the journey into continued service through nonprofit leadership and then into government service with LTC (R) Oakland McCulloch. Concurrently, we discussed Oakland McCulloch's entry into the construction industry, where the leadership’s eagerness to hire leaders was a decisive factor for him. We've stated it before: service members have a superpower—leadership. Lean on that and seek out companies that value it. Key insights from this episode include: Transitioning to civilian life is a continuous journey. Your first job may not provide immediate purpose; discovering meaning within a company takes time, just as adjusting to the military's mission did. Don't rush into the first offer; ask tough questions, assess the leadership, and remember they are evaluating you as much as you are evaluating them. A strong management team is worth more than double the salary at a place with dubious leadership. Follow the 75% rule: aim to be in the top 25% of your peers at a minimum, and success will pursue you. We are the leaders the corporate world needs now.
