ABOUT YOUR GUEST: Chief of Police Elliott Moya was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up near Springfield, Massachusetts. His first experience in law enforcement was as a volunteer park ranger in Springfield. He joined the Air Force Reserve while working as a civilian employee at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks occurred while he was in training in Texas and he was activated. He spent the next six years in Homeland Security, mostly at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida. When his tour was up, Moya moved to Maine, where his family has summered. Looking for a job in law enforcement, Short encouraged him to apply for an opening in Eliot, and Moya began his Eliot P.D. career in March 2007. After a brief time at the Biddeford Police Department, Moya returned to Eliot. From the position of patrolman he became field training officer and then detective. As lieutenant, he began to improve evidence and property procedures and to improve staff morale. Chief Moya is a mental health and wellness advocate. He is taking steps in his police department to better connect citizens to treatment and alternative dispositions to confinement. Chief Moya is also leadership focused and works to create a positive and inclusive culture at Eliot P.D. Bruckner spent 13 years in Law Enforcement in multiple roles such as Detective, Undercover Officer, Patrolman and Patrol Leader. Chad is also a trained volunteer with the local Critical Incident Stress Management team. Chad served 8 years in the U.S. Army Infantry and supervised over 300 combat missions in Iraq.
